No tanning salon lotions protect your skin?

It's summer and I'm still pale because of my work hours, I have little time to put in the sun and get a natural tan. I've tried tanning moisturizers SELT but evolve in just one day left me with strange stripes. I used to use sunbed without skin protection. About a year ago that it had removed a mole and pre-cancerous, but could have been for the sun, as it used to happen much time outdoors. I started using tanning beds, but now I apply an SPF 15 lotion beforehand. The man in the room told me today that you should not use protection solar tanning beds. He said his lotions to help build and maintain your tan, and protect your skin. Are you telling the truth or simply trying to get me to buy their products? Anyway, does anyone have any alternative to tanning? And please do not respond with "you must learn to love their natural color"
